Spectacular Success

The wheel exceeded all expectation and demonstrated to the world that the USA was a leader in technology. The wheel carried 1.5 million passengers in its short 19 weeks of operation and on its busiest day it carried over 30,000 passengers.  Mr. Ferris was acclaimed for meeting the challenge of surpassing the significance of the Eiffel Tower. 

 

Following the close of the Exposition, the Observation wheel was moved to Frankland Park in Chicago.  It operated for there for a short 4 months and was then moved to St Louis for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition.

 

The Observation Wheel was again was the center of attraction in St Louis.  It operated with great success for six months and was sadly demolished at the end of the fair.

 

The Observation Wheel symbolize, creativity and innovation that can be accomplished by one individual..  His wheel is recognized, still today, as an engineering marvel.  He demonstrated to the world the future possibilities that science and engineering could bringing to the world for the betterment of humanity.  In consideration of Mr. Ferris accomplishment all future Observation Wheels would be named “Ferris Wheels”.
